⭐ STEP 1: Join the CFE Program
To take the exam and earn your CFE credential, you must first become a member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) by paying
membership fee of $60.
⭐STEP 2: Set Up Your Account
After paying the membership fee, ACFE will send you an email with a link to set up your account and password.
⭐STEP 3: Access Your Account
Once your account is created, log in and navigate to the “My Account” section. Go to the CFE Exam Application tab and track your application status.
⭐STEP 4: Check Your Eligibility
Before applying for the exam, you must “Prequalify and Purchase CFE Exam” by entering your:
👉 Professional experience
👉 Educational background
👉 Eligibility is determined by a points system:
👉 40 points are required to take the exam.
👉 50 points are required to earn the credential.
⭐STEP 5: Apply for the Exam
Pay the $450 exam fee, which covers all four sections of the CFE exam.
Upload supporting documents, including proof of education and three professional recommendations. Recommendations can be signed by a current or former colleague, supervisor, or any CFE.
ACFE will review your application within five days, and upon approval, you can proceed to the exam.
⭐STEP 6: Prepare for the Exam
Once approved, ACFE will email you confirmation of your eligibility. Key details include:
👉Validity period: Your application is valid for two years, but you must maintain active membership.
👉Exam timeline: You must complete all four exam sections within 60 days of approval.
You can choose between:
👉Online proctoring: An assigned proctor will monitor you throughout the exam.
👉Exam center: You can schedule exams at an approved location.
Schedule each module separately, choosing dates and times that suit you.
⭐STEP 7: Exam Confirmation
You’ll receive an email confirming your scheduled exams.
⭐STEP 8: Appear for the Exam
On exam day, ensure you have a reliable Wi-Fi connection, a computer with a webcam, and microphone.
Each section is a two-hour, 100-question multiple-choice exam.
⭐Important Notes:
It is recommended not to take more than two sections in one day.
Complete all sections within 60 days of approval.
You can take the sections in any order.
After completing all four sections, submit your exams to ACFE. Results will be declared within a few days.
⭐STEP 9: Celebrate Your Success
Congratulations! If you pass all four sections, you’ll receive an email confirming your success.
If needed, you have three attempts to pass each section. Failed sections require a $100 retake fee per section.
If unsuccessful after three attempts, you’ll need to reapply by paying $450 fee again.
